Vardy staying grounded

Leicester talisman Jamie Vardy says he is not setting himself any targets for the season, despite sitting top of the Premier League scoring charts. Despite being 32, Vardy looks as sprightly as ever and appears to be relishing working under Brendan Rodgers. The Northern Irishman has built his team around the former England man and it has brought the best out of him, netting 10 goals – a situation in stark contrast to last season under Claude Puel.
The striker has netted five in his last three, including a hat-trick in the 9-0 win over Southampton.
Vardy’s latest goal came in Sunday’s 2-0 win at Crystal Palace, a result that helped the Foxes stay third in the Premier League table.
Having a supply line of quality chances provided by the likes of James Maddison, Youri Tielemans and Harvey Barnes is something any striker would love and the veteran is clearly enjoying himself.
The Sheffield-born forward has been his team’s top scorer in the last four seasons and, with 10 goals already, looks set to at least trouble his career-best of 24 achieved during the Foxes’ title-winning campaign of 2015-16.
However, with experience comes wisdom and Vardy knows better than most the ups and downs of professional football, having come through the ranks of non-league.
Rather than set himself specific targets, the Leicester hitman is staying in the moment. “I’m just taking each game as it comes,” he told the club website. “I’m getting a lot of chances fed to me from my team-mates and at the minute I’m taking them, so I’ll knuckle down this week during training, get a bit more practice in and look forward to the game next week.”
Leicester are next in action on Saturday when they welcome Arsenal to the King Power Stadium.
The Foxes head into the match on a four-game winning streak in all competitions and will see the fixture as a chance to cement their top-four hopes.
