Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy revealed that Barcelona star Luis Suarez asked to swap shirts at half-time during a pre-season friendly in the summer.
The Foxes took on Luis Enrique’s side in the International Champions Cup back in August, as the champions of Spain beat the champions of England 4-2 in Stockholm.
It was a game Vardy played the first 45 minutes of, and one that saw him come up against one of the world’s deadliest forwards in Suarez.
However Vardy headed into the clash as a 24-goal hit-man from the Premier League and a top flight winner, so is no stranger to success himself, but what he’s revealed is still a rather strange turn of, perhaps usual, events.
Suarez – perhaps the bigger household name for fans across Europe – actually asked Vardy to swap shirts at half-time.
“It varies [who decides who swaps with whom],” the 29-year-old told The Times. “When we played Barcelona pre-season, I knew the lads would all be trying to get a shirt, so I weren’t going to ask anyone. Then, coming in at half-time, Luis Suarez asked if he could have mine.”
Whether Suarez was just extremely eager to get to Vardy’s shirt before anyone else did, or the Uruguayan simply knew the Leicester forward was being taken off at the break, remains to be seen.
