Paris Saint-Germain playmaker Marco Verratti would be the perfect fit for Barcelona, according to AC Milan legend Paolo Maldini.
The Italian midfielder has developed into a key player for the Ligue 1 giants ever since his arrival from Pescara in the summer of 2011 with his ability to dictate the tempo of a game greatly appreciated by fans and pundits alike.
He came in for widespread praise for his display in PSG’s 4-0 win over the Catalan giants in the Champions League round of 16 first-leg clash earlier in the campaign which has seen him strongly linked with a move to the Camp Nou this summer as a result.
Speaking to Calciomercato, Maldini has urged his compatriot to make the switch to La Liga during the transfer window.
“I think Verratti is extraordinary. I think he will improve if he leaves Paris.
“He would be perfect for Barcelona and Barcelona would be perfect for him.”
In the season just gone, Verratti completed 2,112 passes at an 89% accuracy in the top flight of French football – which was the second highest total of any player across the entire PSG squad, behind only Thiago Motta (2,490).
Furthermore, only Angel di Maria (77) and Lucas Moura (54) created more chances than Verratti (40) in Ligue 1 for PSG, while the playmaker was also the best ball-winner in the squad having won the more tackles than any other player (68).
