Paris Saint-Germain star Marco Verratti has revealed that his worst memory in the Champions League is when Chelsea knocked the French side out in 2014.
In the quarter-finals of the Champions League in the 2013/14 season, PSG had beaten Chelsea 3-1 at home in the first leg and trailed 1-0 in the final few minutes of the second.
As things stood, the French champions were heading into the semi-finals for the first time in their history to face Atletico Madrid.
However, Demba Ba scored a late second for Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea as they knocked the French side out to reach the semi-finals themselves, and Verratti has admitted that it’s his worst Champions League memory.
“My worst memory is the game that we lost 2-0 at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea in 2013-2014, after we had won 3-1 at home,” Verratti wrote for Goal.
“We conceded a goal three minutes from the end and that was very hard to take. I still think back to it now and it still hurts.”
The French champions, despite being heavily favoured, have still not made it to the semi-finals of the competition and are now under new management.
Their first game in the Champions League this season ended in a 1-1 draw with Arsenal despite Edinson Cavani having several excellent chances on goal.
