Sebastian Vettel feels Ferrari still have the “speed” to win the Mexican Grand Prix despite missing out on pole in qualifying on Saturday. The Scuderia had looked well placed to claim what would have been a sixth-successive pole position after they had secured a one-two finish during Practice Three at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, although it had been Vettel’s team-mate Charles Leclerc that topped the timesheets during that session. However, neither Scuderia was celebrating pole at the end of qualifying, as that honour went to Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, who posted a time of 1:14.758. Vettel, who has never won in Mexico City, was not too concerned, however, as he feels his team have the pace to mount a serious challenge during Sunday’s race. “We would like to be a bit further up, I think it was possible, but we still have the speed,” Vettel was quoted as saying by Sky Sports. “It will be a long race and a tough one on brakes and cooling in general. On the tyres it will also be quite an adventure tomorrow.” The four-time world champion’s views were shared by team-mate Leclerc, who also feels the start of the race will be key to Ferrari’s chances. “Red Bull was very quick. Max was very quick,” Leclerc confirmed. “Tomorrow, the start will be very important. The top speed we have is very good.”
