In their first home game since being crowned kings of Italy for the first time in 33 years, Napoli defeated Fiorentina 1-0 on Sunday courtesy of a Victor Osimhen penalty, and the team’s fans celebrated the homecoming of their Serie A championship-winning heroes.
After missing from the spot just after halftime, Nigerian striker Osimhen scored the game-winning penalty in the 74th minute to increase his league-leading tally to 23 goals.
This was just a few days after he scored the goal that gave Napoli their third Scudetto with a record-equaling five matches remaining.
The 24-year-old has now surpassed George Weah to become the highest-scoring African player in Serie A history and soaked up the cheers of the Napoli supporters as the team completed their post-game lap of honor.
“I had the confidence I would score the second one. It’s a good feeling to get the goal,” said Osimhen to DAZN.
