Former Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic has revealed he found it tougher to face Didier Drogba in the Premier League than former foe Fernando Torres.
Vidic endured battles with both Torres and Drogba during his immense success at Manchester United, often culminating in varying results, as the two strikers fought to get the better of the battle-ready defender.
Vidic suffered one of his worst moments as a United player when he gifted Torres a goal for Liverpool in a 4-1 win for the Reds at Old Trafford, a match in which he was later sent off.
Despite this poor result the Serbian, who retired from playing in January, has revealed that he actually considers Drogba his toughest ever opponent.
Vidic insists that Drogba’s tenacity made him a really difficult opponent, while also revealing that Luis Suarez and Sergio Aguero were the two technically best strikers he’s ever had to come up against on the field.
The 34-year-old told FourFourTwo: “Drogba was tougher. Torres always created a chance to score, but Drogba was on you for the full game. People say: ‘You had a difficult game against Torres’, but it was just the one game.
“I went to head the ball but changed my mind and tried to pass to Edwin [van der Sar]. I misjudged the distance and Torres scored.
“Drogba was physically the hardest; [Luis] Suarez and [Sergio] Aguero were the best. Drogba would be even better if he didn’t get so many injuries. They were the top three I played against.”
