Villa handed Grealish boost ahead of Reds test

Aston Villa boss Dean Smith has revealed star midfielder Jack Grealish should be fit to face Liverpool this weekend. Grealish was forced to sit out the Carabao Cup fourth-round victory against Wolves ob Wednesday night with a calf injury, but thankfully it is nothing serious and he will be ready to face the Reds.
The midfielder picked up the injury during the 3-0 loss at Manchester City last weekend when he took a kick to the calf, and Smith was not willing to take a gamble on him during the Wolves game.
Speaking after the 2-1 win over Wolves, Smith gave an update on Grealish, and thankfully for Villa fans, it is positive news. “Jack is okay. He’s pushing to be fit for Saturday,” Smith said. “He’s responded really well to treatment. He was here today.”
The news comes as a huge boost to Villa, who cannot afford to be without Grealish for long. He has been in outstanding form this season, earning plaudits from all and sundry, and he is also on the verge of a call up to the England squad.
Villa face a huge task trying to get anything off Liverpool this weekend, and Grealish will be key to their chances of doing so.
Meanwhile, the Villa medical staff will have to check on the fitness of Keinan Davis after he was forced to come off against Wolves after picking up a hamstring issue.
Davis came off in the second half and the club have revealed they will assess the striker on Thursday morning to determine the severity of the problem.
Experience proved to be the key for Villa on Wednesday night as goals from Anwar El Ghazi and Ahmed Elmohamaday earned them the win over a youthful looking Wolves side.
The quarter-final draw will be made on Thursday morning and a good one may have Villa fans dreaming their name could be on the Cup.
