Real Madrid Star, Vinicius Junior went through a difficult night after his penalty miss for Brazil allowed Venezuela to clinch a surprise 1-1 draw in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier.
Raphinha, a prolific attacker for Barcelona, gave the Selecao the lead shortly before halftime. But Venezuela substitute Telasco Segovia quickly pulled them back.
After only winning two of their first six games, Brazil had already won their last two World Cup qualifying matches against Chile and Peru. When Rafael Romo rushed in and knocked down Vinicius, they had a great chance to grab three more points.
Before replays clearly demonstrated that contact had been made with Vinicius within the box, the referee first gave Brazil a free-kick just outside the penalty area.
According to 90min, Romo saved Vinicius’ feeble penalty, and the 24-year-old swung the rebound wide of the post. Vinicius was in incredible form the weekend as an injury-plagued Real Madrid defeated Osasuna 4-0 in La Liga.

Despite hitting the post earlier in the match, Vinicius’s dismal performance on the international scene prevented him from helping Brazil find a winner.
In sharp contrast to his stellar goal total for Real Madrid, the 2024 Ballon d’Or runner-up has only managed five goals in 36 games for his country.
