Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk says that there is “no deadline” for his contract situation.
The Netherlands international’s current contract expires in the summer, and he will be eligible to discuss with overseas clubs about a move at the end of the season starting next week.
However, it is thought that the 33-year-old prefers to continue at Anfield, and he is currently focused on a season in which Liverpool leads the Premier League and Champions League tables.
“There is no deadline at all. We will see what the future brings. Is there an update? No,” he told reporters after the 6-3 win over Tottenham.
Van Dijk is one of three crucial players whose contracts are expiring in the next six months, with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah.

Salah moved up to fourth on Liverpool’s all-time scoring chart with 229 following his two goals against Spurs, and his totals are quite comparable to his first season with the club (2017-18), when he scored 44 goals. Reported by independent News
He presently has 18 goals this season, with 15 in the Premier League, two more than Manchester City attacker Erling Haaland, and 15 assists.
In terms of overall contributions, he is clearly the leading player in Europe’s top five leagues. Eintracht Frankfurt striker Omar Marmoush is second with 29.
“The numbers speak for themselves,” he added.
“He’s a very special athlete. He’s done amazingly for the club and hopefully he can play his best season ever for the club, stay important with his goals and assists and be clinical.
“He is a professional. We’ve been there, he’s been there, so onto the next (game). And next season? I don’t know.”
