Virgil Van Dijk ‘Winning’ Verdict On New Arne Slot Rule At Liverpool Speaks Volumes

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has admitted that he supports a new ‘regulation’ imposed by manager Arne Slot prior to home games.

Slot has delighted fans and defied expectations at Anfield, despite many observers predicting a drop in form following the departure of Jurgen Klopp. Their new Dutch manager has supervised only one defeat, an unexpected slip against Nottingham Forest, and his team currently leads the Premier League table by two points with a game in hand.

But Slot isn’t one to take the spotlight or get carried away with the club’s hot start to the season. He has consistently stated that he walked into an excellent system left by Klopp, who ended a silver-laden nine-year spell on Merseyside in the summer.

Meanwhile, Van Dijk, a defensive giant under Klopp, is thriving again in Slot’s system and has been a standout performer this season. In a candid interview with the Mirror, Van Dijk expressed support for one of Slot’s new mandates, which allows players to sleep in their own homes rather than staying in a hotel before playing on their home soil.

“Everyone has their own preference, but it’s the rules now,” Van Dijk said. “Personally, I like to sleep in my own bed and be with my family, and so it works out quite well.”

He also mentioned the importance of family time, despite frequent travels. The 33-year-old said: “Obviously, we travel quite a lot [as well]; FaceTime is a big tool that could sort of keep you a little with your family.
