Virgil van Dijk was filled with excitement following Liverpool’s title victory and can’t wait to accept the Premier League trophy as the club captain. The Dutch defender has disclosed that he intends to enjoy the next weeks and wants his teammates to do the same, following the sacrifices made to achieve triumph.
Liverpool won their 20th Premier League title with four games to spare, defeating Tottenham 5-1 at Anfield. Jubilant scenes erupted throughout the city, as fans were able to rejoice more vigorously after the Reds’ previous title was restricted due to Covid-19.
While Liverpool’s players were able to enjoy the moment on Sunday afternoon, as they were greeted by a sea of red before the game and praised profusely afterwards, there will be more moments of celebration to come. The trophy will not arrive until the season’s last day, and medals will be distributed.

Van Dijk stated that success was a dream come true in a voice letter sent to GQ, reflecting on a pivotal time. “When the final whistle went on Sunday, I think was pure emotion… to finally get the job done,” added the quarterback. According to the Mirror.
“The dreams we had as a team, as a club, as a city, came true. All the hard work we put in each and every day, every session.”
“Obviously being the first Dutch captain to lift [the title] is an amazing feeling… but particularly with all the hard work and the sacrifice that not only myself, but my wife, my kids, all had to [make]… that means a lot.
