Arsenal forward Theo Walcott has revealed the discussion that he had with manager Arsene Wenger at the start of the season regarding his playing position.
The 27-year-old appears to be fulfilling the potential he displayed as a youngster, albeit a decade after Arsenal signed him from Southampton.
The England international, who has been hampered by injuries over the last year 18 months, has already scored nine goals across all competitions this season and has six in the top-flight.
Only Alexis Sanchez (8) has managed more for Arsenal in the league this season and Walcott has revealed how a talk with his manager in the summer helped him start the campaign in strong form.
“At the start of the season, me and the manager sat down and I told him where I wanted to play so I don’t even have to think about anything else,” Walcott told the club’s official website.
“Obviously I have that experience in the central position and if I find myself there, hopefully I’ll be able to tuck away the goals.
“I’m still working hard in training, the mental side of it, the gym and everything while making sure I have time at home as well. Everything seems to be clicking.
“I just want to make sure I am the best I can be every day going into training. If I can stay fit, hopefully it should be a good season not just for me but for everyone else.”
Walcott has only ever scored more than ten goals in a season for Arsenal once, but will be keen to replicate that this term.
The forward revealed on Monday how scoring one more goal by Christmas will see him rewarded with a new coffee machine from his wife.
