Wales call up wing Lane

Wales have called up Cardiff Blues wing Owen Lane to their World Cup squad to replace injured forward Josh Navidi. Navidi will miss the semi-final clash against South Africa after injuring his hamstring during the quarter-final win over France in Oita on Saturday. Wales have plenty of options for the back-row so have opted to call up Lane as coach Warren Gatland they are a bit light in the backs heading into the clash. Lane, who can also play at centre made his Test debut in the warm-up defeat to Ireland back in August after being included in Wales’ extended pre-tournament training squad. The 21-year-old will now have the chance to be involved against South Africa on Sunday when Wales will hope to reach the first final in their history. “Given we’ve got six back-rowers and we’ve got five fit at the moment, we’ve been a little bit short in numbers in the backs,” Gatland said. Wales hope to have Jonathan Davies fit again after he missed the France game with a knee injury, while Hadleigh Parkes has been playing with a broken bone in his hand and a shoulder injury.
