Wales are set to be without full-back Liam Williams for Sunday’s World Cup semi-final against South Africa in Yokohama. Williams, who was part of the British and Irish Lions squad for the 2017 tour to New Zealand, featuring in all three Tests, has played in four of Wales’ five matches in Japan, scoring two tries in the process. The 28-year-old has been a key figure in Warren Gatland’s side but it now looks like the full-back will be unavailable for selection for Sunday’s clash against the Springboks due to an ankle injury suffered in training. Wales are now sweating over the fitness of the Swansea-born star, who will be given as much time as possible to prove his fitness ahead of the game at International Stadium Yokohama. If Williams was ruled out, Leigh Halfpenny is likely to take the number 15 shirt and he is no stranger to the big stage, having played at full-back when Wales faced France in the 2011 semi-final. Gatland has already had his injury issues during the tournament, with Josh Navidi ruled out of the tournament after picking up a hamstring injury in the thrilling 20-19 quarter-final win over France.
