Wales set to move ahead of England in new FIFA rankings

Despite losing 2-0 to Portugal in the semi-finals of Euro 2016, Wales are set to move above England into 11th in the next set of FIFA’s world rankings.

Wales have been one of the surprises of the tournament, as they finished top of their group and then beat Northern Ireland and Belgium to make it into the semi-finals of a major tournament for the first time in their history.

Without suspended duo Ben Davies and Aaron Ramsey they lost 2-0 to Portugal, with Cristiano Ronaldo and Nani scoring the goals that took their country to the final.

Wales’ good form in the tournament and during qualifying will see them rewarded with a FIFA World Ranking of 11th, with England dropping to 13th.

England beat Wales during the tournament but suffered a shock 2-1 defeat to Iceland, however, their perfect record in qualifying is expected to prevent them from dropping too low in the rankings.

Both teams will now turn their attention to World Cup qualifiers for the tournament in Russia in 2018 but many would argue Wales are in a better place.

They are a far more stable team while England have plenty of issues to address, most notably being the replacement for Roy Hodgson, who resigned after England were knocked out.
