Chris Smalling was in good spirits following Manchester United‘s epic 3-2 victory over Southampton in the EFL Cup final and the defender took to Instagram to celebrate his side’s achievement.
However, Liverpool supporters probably won’t be best pleased with Smalling’s post as the defender decided to bring attention to the fact United had now officially knocked them off their perch as the most decorated club in English football.
The England centre-back started the match at Wembley and played a big part in the Red Devils successfully winning the 42nd major honour in their history.
‘Shout out my man Zlatan Ibrahimovic …Liverpool, WATCH THE THRONE,’ Smalling wrote on Instagram immediately after the titanic clash.
Ibrahimovic’s magnificent brace, as well as Jesse Lingard goal before the break, were just about enough for United to get their hands on the trophy.
‘We are winning. After seven months I have two trophies with this club,’ Ibrahimovic said following the win.
‘There are other clubs that didn’t win for 10 years. I’ve won what they won in 10 years, so I’m happy with that.’
