Watford have announced the appointment of Chris Wilder as their new head coach, following the departure of Slaven Bilic.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Hornets announced that they had parted ways with Slaven Bilic after only 26 games due to a poor run of form in the Championship.
Despite the Croatian’s 37 points from 25 league games, Watford remain in ninth place in the Championship table, six points out of the playoffs.
A club statement read: “The Hornets had won just once in the last eight Sky Bet Championship games under the Croatian head coach – part of a run which included just three wins since Christmas.”
Technical director Ben Manga added: “We are all ambitious to succeed this season, so something new is needed quickly while the opportunity of promotion is still real.
With Bilic’s predecessor Rob Edwards having lasted only 11 games, the club’s hierarchy has decided to bring in their third manager since last summer.

The Hertfordshire club has revealed that Wilder has joined Vicarage Road on a deal that runs until the end of the current season.
While the 55-year-old has had a successful managerial career overall, he only lasted a year in his most recent post at Middlesbrough.
Although virtually securing a playoff spot for Boro in 2021-22, the North-East club spent the first two months of this season in and around the relegation zone before his departure on October 3.
However, Watford will be hoping that Wilder can have the same influence that he did at Sheffield United, where he led the Blades from League One to the top half of the Premier League standings in 2019-20.
Wilder’s first game as head coach will be a short travel to face the Queens Park Rangers on March 11.
