Watford eye Bordeaux wing-back Kamano again

Watford are back on the trail of Bordeaux winger Francois Kamano, but could face Premier League competition for his signature in January. Watford, who were linked to Kamano in January of this year, scouted Bordeaux’s 2-0 Ligue 1 win over Nantes on Sunday.
Southampton, who were linked to the Guinea international in March, also sent a spy to the Stade Matmut-Atlantique.
Everton scouts were in attendance too, alongside a plethora of clubs from France, Spain and Germany.
The Guinean attacker took the eye as he scored his first goal of the season for Paulo Sousa’s men.
Kamano has been deployed in a right wing-back role this season and that has negatively impacted his goal tally.
The 23-year-old scored 13 goals in all competitions last term operating as a left winger.
That attracted interest from Monaco and Watford 12 months ago with the Daily Mail reporting that Kamano was a January target for both clubs.
However, the Hornets eventually lured another Ligue 1 talent to Vicarage Road by landing Ismaila Sarr from Rennes for a reported £25m club-record fee.
Ex-Bordeaux head coach Ricard Gomes told L’Equipe earlier this month: “Kamano, there was his transfer story with Monaco in January, twice he came to my office to tell me he wanted to leave.”
Newcastle and Liverpool were linked to him during the summer transfer window but he again stayed in France where he now has just over 18 months left on his Bordeaux contract.
Transfer talk over the summer put Kamano’s price-tag at around £20m, but his decreasing goal output and shortening contract term mean it is unlikely Bordeaux could realistically attain that kind of fee for him now.
Speaking on Sunday, Kamano told Bein Sport: “Already, I’m very happy to score this first goal of the season, after we try to circulate the ball, we put things in practice that we tried in training. I shot myself and I scored, I must finish well and take less time in scoring the second.”
