When discussing the 2023/24 Premier League season, West Ham United star, Michail Antonio threw down the challenge as he looked ahead to this weekend’s match against Liverpool.
According to Liverpool World, the Hammers talisman made the unusual declaration that he thinks his side will finish ahead of Jurgen Klopp’s side, this campaign.
West Ham have only ever placed ahead of Liverpool in the 1998–1999 and 2015–16 seasons. The latter being Klopp’s first as manager. Therefore it has only ever happened twice in the history of the Premier League.
West Ham will play Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday. On the Footballer’s Football Podcast, Antonio, 33, discussed the upcoming Premier League match. In which he backed himself and his team over the Reds.
“I am backing myself over Liverpool. You know what, I think we are going to finish higher than Liverpool this season. I’m putting it out there.
“I watched the game [Wolves vs Liverpool] because it was before our game and Wolves could have run away with it. They had quite a few opportunities. We’ve got them this weekend and it’s a six-pointer.”
