Arsenal’s players “always” respond when they are in trouble, according to Arsene Wenger.
The Gunners were staring down the barrel of an early FA Cup exit at the weekend, having fallen behind against Championship side Preston.
But the north Londoners came storming back in the second half of the game and booked their place in the fourth round courtesy of goals from Aaron Ramsey and Olivier Giroud.
Arsenal’s mental strength has been questioned in recent years, with critics often suggesting Wenger’s players come up short when their backs are against the wall.
But, having seen his side respond to several setbacks this season, the Frenchman is adamant Arsenal’s current crop of players have a burning desire to succeed.
“I must say, the team has great ambition and a great togetherness,” he told Arsenal’s official website.
“They respond always when they are in trouble and that’s a great quality.
“We were caught cold in the first half. It was importaant to qualify and we would have been very disappointed to go out. We care about this trophy,” Wenger added.
Arsenal will learn their FA Cup fourth-round opponents during tonight’s draw. The Gunners are ball number 20.
