Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger insists Wednesday’s home clash with Basel in the Champions League won’t be easy.
The Gunners head into the match against the Swiss club full of confidence after thrashing Premier League rivals Chelsea 3-0 at the Emirates on Saturday.
It comes after a good draw against Paris Saint-Germain on matchday one of the Champions League, which was then followed up with a 4-1 victory over Hull City.
But the French tactician has warned his men not to take it easy against Basel this week and told his troops to look at how the Swiss side have fared against English opposition in recent years.
“Everyone will think that Basel will be easy,” Wenger said. “Then you look at the results of Basel against English teams, and you realise it will not be easy.
“They beat Manchester United, they beat Chelsea, they beat Liverpool.
“So let’s prepare properly and keep our feet on the ground because in our job, one thing I know if you are not prepared you are quickly hit on your head.”
Arsenal made hard work of their Champions League group last season and needed a good run of results in the latter stages of their group to qualify for the knockout phases.
A dramatic win over Olympiacos away in Greece last December secured their passage, but Wenger will be hoping for an easier route this time around.
