Arsene Wenger believes Mohamed Elneny can play a vital role in Arsenal’s midfield during the remainder of the season.
The Egypt international’s season has been disrupted by injury and his involvement in January’s Africa Cup of Nations and has struggled for a regular starting spot given the abundance of options at Arsene Wenger’s disposal.
Elneny was handed a rare Premier League start, his first since New Years’ Day, against West Ham and made a positive impression alongside his former Basel teammate Granit Xhaka.
With Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Aaron Ramsey having recovered from the injuries they picked up on international duty, Wenger again has a difficult balancing act to perform, but believes Elneny offers him qualities his other central midfielders lack.
‘He gives us fluency,’ he said. ‘Elneny is a continuity player who is a generous player and wants to help the team.
‘His attitude is always to help the team and he is always available. It’s a quality. He’s quickly available. There are two kinds of availability in midfield.
‘Ones who straight away in a fraction of seconds can understand where he has to go to get the ball and these kind of players.’
