Bayern Munich are reportedly set to offer Arsene Wenger the vacant managerial position at the Allianz Arena until the end of the season. There has been increasing speculation that the 70-year-old French tactician could be the man to replace Niko Kovac, who was sacked after last weekend’s 5-1 defeat at Eintracht Frankfurt following an 18-month stint at the helm.
Wenger, who spent 22 years in charge at Premier League side Arsenal before departing in the summer of 2018, broke his silence on the links to the Bayern position and seems open to the possibility of taking over at the Allianz Arena.
He said: “I never refuse to talk to Bayern Munich because I know these people who lead the club for 30 years. I was nearly going to Bayern a long, long time ago. At the moment, I haven’t talked to them at all. “We have not talked to each other and I don’t know [if we will].”
Fresh reports are now claiming that Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge will seek talks with Wenger after this weekend’s huge Bundesliga clash against Borussia Dortmund with a view to making an appointment during the international break.
If the Frenchman does take over it would see him go up against Arsenal’s north London rivals Tottenham in the Champions League group stage clash in Bavaria on December 11.
Bayern won the game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium 7-2 last month and booked their place in the knockout stages with a 2-0 win against Olympiacos on Wednesday.
