Arsene Wenger is facing a major dilemma over whether to axe Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal ’s title run-in.
Sanchez has been desperately out of form since returning from a hamstring injury and there is a growing feeling the Arsenal forward needs a rest.
Wenger has been reluctant to take Sanchez out of his line-up but the problem is reaching crisis point after Arsenal’s defeat at Manchester United left their title challenge on the brink of collapse.
Sanchez has insisted that he does not want to be rested and wants to play his way back to form after managing just one goal since returning at the end of January after a seven week lay-off.
hile star Sanchez, who has struggled this season after not having a summer break because of the Copa America, knows there have been discussions about him being rested but fears it could make the problem worse.
Gunners boss Wenger is likely to make changes for Wednesday’s must-win clash with Swansea but it remains to be seen whether Sanchez will be taken out of the firing line and his determination to play may make it difficult.
But Sanchez must show improved form for Arsenal to regain some title-winning results as the Premier League crown slips away.
Wenger had his players in on Monday for a light session after the defeat at Old Trafford and Arsenal are desperate for Jack Wilshere and Santi Cazorla to come back in the next month to help improve their fortunes.
Wenger was very measured in his post-match criticism to the players after the United game and believes they will respond against Swansea even though some of them are showing signs of fatigue ahead of Saturday’s North London derby.
