Arsene Wenger has praised striker Olivier Giroud after he scored the opening goal as Arsenal beat Swansea City 4-0 at the Liberty stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The France international scored his fifth goal in his last five starts for the club as he helped them climb two places in the table into third, although they could be moved down the table, depending on the result of Man United’s clash against Liverpool.
Wenger said, as reported by BBC Sport: “Olivier Giroud did well again and he was important for us. He had an ankle injury after 30-35 minutes and got to 60 minutes.
“There are many good team around us and everyone is doing well. We can only focus on our results and hope some go our way.”
Two of the Gunners’ goals came from Swansea players after Jack Cork and then Kyle Naughton both directed Alex Iwobi shots past goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski, while Alexis Sanchez got the final goal 20 minutes from time.
Giroud had been limping and it looked like he may be substituted before scoring a tap-in in the 37th minute to give the Gunners the lead.
The defeat leaves the Swans – now managed by former Derby County boss, Paul Clement – at the bottom of the table although they are only one point from safety with Hull City the only club in the bottom four to win today.
