Wenger hails Manchester United signings Mkhitaryan and Ibrahimovic

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has praised Manchester United signings Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The pair joined United earlier in the transfer window as they arrived from Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain respectively and will hope to have a major impact during their first season in English football.

As reported by the official Arsenal website, Wenger said: “You have to say Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Zlatan Ibrahimovic going to Manchester United are the biggest names, and apart from that you don’t have too many – yet.

“A few more will certainly come in and that’s why we find the transfer market from the beginning of August until August 31 is important.”

Ibrahimovic has made a stellar start to his United career, with the forward having scored three goals in as many Premier League appearances.

Mkhitaryan, in contrast, has been mainly used as a substitute so far, with manager Jose Mourinho eager to ease the Armenia international into the team slowly.

United have made some other major signings this summer, most notably bringing in Paul Pogba, who rejoined the club from Juventus for a world record fee, and Eric Bailly, who has impressed since moving from Villarreal.

United were tipped in some quarters to sign another centre-back before the closure of the transfer window, with the club having been strongly linked with a move for Southampton’s Jose Fonte.

However, that move failed to come to fruition, meaning Mourinho will have to rely on the likes of Bailly, Chris Smalling and Daley Blind as his options at the heart of the defence until January.

Mourinho’s side have started the season in fine form, with the Portuguese having guided his side to three victories in as many Premier League games.

Although, matters are set to get considerably more difficult after the international break when they host rivals Manchester City, who have also won all of their top flight fixtures so far this campaign.
