Wenger insists Arsenal’s failure to reach Champions League won’t affect transfers

Arsene Wenger insists the club’s transfer business this summer will not be swayed by their league finish and says the Gunners can still attract top players outside of the Champions League.

The Gunners currently sit in sixth and a failure to beat Manchester United on Sunday will all but confirm the club finish outside of the top four.

Wenger’s qualified for Europe’s elite competition in each of the last 21 seasons but a failure to do so this season will cost the Gunners £45m in revenue.

The likes of Alexandre Lacazette and Virgil Van Dijk are willing to leave their respective clubs but only for a suitor in the Champions League.

Wenger, though, says his targets will not change and says Arsenal can still attract top talent.

‘I don’t think so,’ said Wenger, when asked if he’ll have to have two lists of potential targets.

‘We will deal with it [Europa League] if we have to face it but at the moment we are not there. It means we focus on the same players.’
