Arsene Wenger believes Alvaro Morata is ‘less of a goalscorer’ than Diego Costa but still expects Chelsea to challenge for the title next season.
The Spain international became Chelsea’s record signing after joining in a £70 million deal from Real Madrid last month.
Antonio Conte has already informed Costa that he will not be part of Chelsea’s plans for the upcoming campaign and the striker is currently searching for a new club with AC Milan and Atletico Madrid both interested.
Wenger has hailed Chelsea’s acquisition of Tiemoue Bakayoko from Monaco but believes Antonio Conte’s attack may now have a different edge following Morata’s arrival at Stamford Bridge.
‘They look like they have kept the basis of the squad,’ Wenger said of Chelsea.
‘They have added Bakayoko who is a very strong player. Similar to [Nemanja] Matic but more of an impact player.
‘They have replaced Costa with Morata – maybe less of a goalscorer than Costa but he can create more.
‘I expect them to fight for the title.’
