Arsene Wenger is seriously considering dropping Mesut Ozil to the bench for Arsenal‘s clash with Bayern Munich in the Champions League, according to reports.
Ozil has been heavily criticised for his recent form for the Gunners, with the midfielder yet to score in 2017, and put in another below-par performance against Hull at the weekend.
The Telegraph suggest serious thought is now being given to removing the German from the starting XI for the Gunners’ all- important European showdown at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday evening.
It’s understood a section of Arsenal’s squad are growing increasingly frustrated with Wenger’s persistent selection of Ozil following a string of underwhelming displays in recent months.
Wenger admitted that the 28-year-old star is suffering a crisis of confidence ahead of Arsenal’s trip to Bayern.
‘I felt he was not completely confident technically [against Hull],’ the Gunners boss stated.
‘I completely agree, that’s a problem because you always think he can deliver something special.
‘It’s true that technically he did things that he is not used to doing. I don’t know why, it can happen.’
