Wenger urges Arsenal fans to be more like Tottenham fans

Arsene Wenger has told Arsenal fans to behave more like supporters of their rivals, even mentioning rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

Wenger has come under intense scrutiny from sections of the Gunners faithful following back-to-back Premier League defeats to Watford and Chelsea.

Those results have seen Wenger’s side slip to fourth in the table, 12 points behind leaders Chelsea, making Hull City’s visit this weekend a crucial game for Arsenal.

Wenger will be aware that anything other than a good result could signal trouble from the fans, but the 67-year-old has urged his side’s supporters to be more supportive of their team – particularly when the going gets tough.

“All the other clubs, everywhere we fight with Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool they have big expectations as well and big histories,” Wenger said, as reported by The Times.

“You have Tottenham, everyone is in the fight and everyone is behind their team. We have to do exactly the same, even if we had two disappointing results. We are in a fight there, we absolutely have to be united or we have no chance to do it.

“Our fans have been consistent and have a high level of expectation, as I have as well. But I don’t feel it is absolutely clear. You cannot be a fan until last Tuesday and not be a fan anymore and not be behind the team this Saturday, it doesn’t make sense.”

There were some unsavoury banners aimed at Wenger last week during the 3-1 defeat to rivals Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Meanwhile, Arsenal’s opponents on Saturday, Hull, head into the game full of confidence after last week’s win over Liverpool.
