Arsene Wenger will play Jamie Vardy on the left if he signs for Arsenal from Leicester City, says Emmanuel Petit.
Vardy is understood to have agreed personal terms worth £100,000-a-week with the Gunners, after Arsenal activated his £20m release clause.
But despite scoring 24 Premier League goals as a central striker last season in Leicester’s title win, Petit thinks Wenger will play Vardy on the left, not up front.
He told The Telegraph: “Maybe Arsene wants someone to play on the left, with Sanchez on the right. With Giroud and Welbeck it would be difficult to play him down the middle, so I suspect he wants him on the left.
“Arsene’s problem is he has had so many players out injured for so long. Vardy is not often injured. He will be available. And he is a late starter, so he is hungry. He’s a good addition to the team.”\
With Vardy, who currently earns £70,000-a-week with Leicester, away with England at Euro 2016, any deal may not be completed until after the tournament, meaning Wenger will have longer to consider the star’s position in the Gunners side.
Arsenal finished second last season behind the Foxes as their initial challenge fell away with inconsistencies dominating the second-half of their campaign.
The long-term injury to Danny Welbeck could mean Vardy fills his place in the Arsenal team, either cutting in from the left-hand side, or centrally if the Gunners are chasing the game.
