Gary Neville has disagreed with Arsene Wenger’s assessment that his Arsenal side are mentally strong.
The Gunners, in a span of a week, went from league leaders to fourth place after suffering consecutive Premier League losses to Everton and then Manchester City despite leading in both games.
In spite of witnessing his side grab a defeat from the jaws of victory Wenger found some positives which Neville has taken issue with.
“I disagree with his point about mentality being strong, I don’t think it is,” he told Sky Sports.
“There was a huge physical drop for Arsenal in the second half, I’m not quite sure where that has come from.
“They just looked completely lethargic, they were walking around the pitch, in such a huge game.
“Initially I thought it was a tactical thing, them not pressurising [in the second half], but they didn’t pressurise at all. They physically just dropped in the second half.”
Arsenal had initially taken an early lead through Theo Walcott before second half goals from Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling turned the game on it’s head and gave City a much-needed three points.
This latest setback leaves the north London one point ahead of arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur, and nine points behind current leaders and in-form Chelsea.
It brings their overall losses this season to three matches having suffered a 4-3 defeat to Liverpool on the opening day.
Next up are home matches against West Brom on Boxing Day before taking on Crystal Palace on New Year’s Eve.
