West Ham United are interested in signing a new striker during the January transfer window.
David Moyes is keen to bolster his attacking options ahead of the new year and Chelsea talisman Olivier Giroud has reportedly emerged as their primary target.
It is believed the club will be willing to offload Andriy Yarmalenko to stump up the funds to secure the 34-year-old’s signature, according to The Mirror.
Moyes is determined to sign an established striker to help provide support for struggling Michail Antonio and Sebastien Haller.
Haller – who scored 20 times in his final season in the Bundesliga – has only found the net twice in 11 games for West Ham.
Fans have grown concerned that the Ivory Coast international is not up to the standard of the Premier League.
Last season’s top goal scorer, Antonio, has been sidelined with a hamstring problem since West Ham’s 2-1 win over Aston Villa at the end of November.
He was a monumental loss to Moyes considering he scored three times in six outings for West Ham earlier in the season.
His goals came against Premier League giants Arsenal, Leicester and Manchester City. As a result, the Hammers are said to be interested in bringing Giroud to the London Stadium in January.
The French forward has been linked with a move away from Chelsea in the January transfer window as he is looking to improve his chances of getting into France’s Euro 2020 squad next summer.
However, Blues manager Frank Lampard has insisted that Giroud still has a key part to play at the club.
