Wijnaldum holds talks with Bayern Munich ahead of Liverpool exit

Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum has held ‘positive talks’ with Bayern Munich ahead of his imminent Anfield exit, according to reports.

Wijnaldum looks set to leave the club when his deal runs down at the end of next month and he is now able to pen pre-contract agreements with clubs.

Bundesliga champions Bayern are one of the teams linked with Wijnaldum, and Sport1 have claimed that discussions have been held between both parties.

The same outlet believes that Holland international Wijnaldum is keen on joining the Bavarian outfit when his five-year stint at Liverpool comes to an end.

Recently, Wijnaldum’s representative, Humphry Nijman, openly confirmed that the 30-year-old will exit Anfield and hinted that a Bayern swoop would be of interest.

‘Wijnaldum is a free transfer and it keeps all options open,’ Nijman told Meine Bayern-Woche, the Sport1 podcast.

‘FC Bayern is a great club. If you are interested in them, please do not hesitate to talk to us.’

And after the concession from Nijman, Bayern look to have officially made contact with Wijnaldum’s camp – and a deal appears to be edging closer to completion.

Wijnaldum has played often for Liverpool once again this season, having been handed 50 appearances across all competitions.

A total of 37 of those have come in the Premier League, with the former Newcastle man scoring twice, but Wijnaldum will soon wave farewell despite the game time.

Earlier this week, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp praised Wijnaldum’s commitment ahead of what may be prove to be his final game for the club.

With no resolution reached as of yet, Wijnaldum is set to pull on the hallowed jersey for the last time against Crystal Palace on Sunday.

Klopp admitted there is no tangible update on the future of the player, but was quick to praise his hard work ‘right up until the last day’.
