Wijnaldum hoping ‘extraordinary’ Pogba would join him at PSG

Georginio Wijnaldum has revealed he would love new club Paris Saint-Germain to add Manchester United star Paul Pogba to their midfield, as the Frenchman ‘has it all’.

The Dutch midfielder was confirmed as a PSG player on Thursday after signing a three-year deal with the French giants following his departure from Liverpool at the end of June.

United are under pressure to sell Pogba this summer and PSG could move for him in a £43million summer deal, with Wijnaldum describing the ‘extraordinary’ Pogba as ‘one of the best midfielders in the world’.

When asked by RMC if he would like to see Pogba join him at PSG, Wijnaldum replied: ‘He is incredible. I have played against him several times and what a fabulous player! Every team would like to have him.’

‘If you ask any player from another team whether they would like Paul Pogba to join them, everyone would say “yes” because he is an extraordinary player, full of qualities. He has it all.

‘He’s one of the best midfielders in the world. But the way I see football and last year I saw it a lot: when a lot of players get injured and you always have to play with the same players, it’s hard.’

According to Daily Mail, Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola is discussing personal terms with PSG, who believe they can sign the 28-year-old midfielder for less than half the £89m he cost United in 2016.

Pogba has a year left on his £290,000-a-week contract at Old Trafford and has given no indication that he is interested in signing a new one. This means he will be able to walk away from Old Trafford as a free agent for the second time next summer, after initially leaving the Premier League club as a youngster for Juventus in 2012.

United must now decide whether to recoup some of that money by selling Pogba before the August 31 transfer deadline or keep the player for another season and risk losing him for nothing.

PSG, one of the few clubs in Europe who could afford his salary, think they can persuade United to sell for around £43m although it’s believed there has been no contact between the two clubs yet.

Should Pogba move to the French giants, who are looking to take back the Ligue 1 title off last season’s surprise champions Lille this term, he would join an all-star PSG side that has already snapped up Gianluigi Donnarumma and Sergio Ramos this summer.

Former Inter Milan defender Achraf Hakimi is another high-profile signing made by Mauricio Pochettino this summer along with Wijnaldum, who praised the PSG project currently underway.
