Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder feels that patience is the watchword for his summer signings as they prepare to face Arsenal on Monday night. Callum Robinson, Lys Mousset and Oli McBurnie were recruited over the summer, with the Blades breaking their transfer record three times in bringing in the trio.
While each of the three players have opened their United account this term, it has hardly been an avalanche of goals, with the South Yorkshire outfit scoring just seven in the Premier League to sit 15th in the table.
They have conceded just seven, however, to take nine points and will hope to add to that tally when Unai Emery’s Gunners arrive at Bramall Lane.
There has been criticism of both United’s style of play and the performance of the new faces this term but Wilder has defended his men and believes it will take time before they adapt to the pace of the top flight. “They’re not established Premier League players. I think it’s really harsh on them to be critical,” he told Sky Sports. “Mousset is finding his feet – he didn’t play a lot of games at Bournemouth – and Oli’s finding his feet too.”
There has been talk that United paid too much for the stars but, ahead of Monday’s match, Wilder was quick to point out that in today’s market he “can’t do anything about the price tag”.
Punters looking to use a free bet might fancy Wilder’s men to beat Arsenal on Monday and go on to finish in the top half of the table.
McBurnie now faces another battle after being charged with drink-driving in Leeds on Friday.
