Toronto Wolfpack confirm they have signed Sonny Bill Williams on a two-year contract as they prepare for life in the Super League. The two-time Rugby World Cup winner has called time on his rugby union career to return to the 13-man code. He recently helped New Zealand finish third at the World Cup in Japan and the former Sydney Roosters ace has become one of Toronto’s two permitted marquee players. Only the first £150,000 of his wages will count towards the club’s salary cap and Williams says he will arrive in Canada with lofty ambitions. He told the club’s official website: “Toronto Wolfpack is a club that represents Toronto which is a very multicultural city. The club has big ambitions and big goals. “I want to be part of all this and do all I can to help reach those lofty goals. On the field, I’d like to bring high-quality play and do all I can for the betterment of the team. “Off the field, I’d like to use my experience to mentor the young players and be helpful where I am needed. Super league will be a new challenge and one I’m looking forward to. It will be a new experience and one I’m ready to embrace.”
