Chelsea midfielder Willian has urged the club to come to a resolution with Brazil over his summer commitments.
The winger is wanting to represent his nation at this summer’s Copa America tournament and the Olympic games, with the competition set to be held in his home country.
However if the 27-year-old does play in both of the tournaments it would mean he would not get any time off over the summer to rest and recuperate, would miss the entire pre-season under new manager Antonio Conte and would be away for the first two matches of the new season.
According to the Evening Standard Chelsea are prepared to compromise with Brazil over Willian’s summer activities however, and want to come to a deal that will see their star performer this season feature in just one of the competitions.
Brazil, on their part, are under intense pressure to perform well in both the Copa America and the Olympics, and it appears that they want to take Willian as one of their three over 23-year-old-players to the Olympics.
Willian meanwhile is eager to not become involved in a row between club and country, saying according to the report: “Everyone knows my desire to play both championships. But of course we do not want to fight and put Chelsea in a difficult situation.
“And I do not want to fight with the Brazil Football Confederation. I hope they and Chelsea enter into an agreement [about my] release.”
The No.22 has been sensational this season for his side, netting four goals in the Premier League.
