Mercedes Formula 1 boss Toto Wolff insists his absence from this weekend’s Brazilian Grand Prix will not diminish the team’s hunger to win. The 47-year-old, who has been in charge of the Brackley-based marque since 2013, has never before missed a grand prix but will remain back in Europe when the South American showpiece takes place over the weekend. It means technical director James Allison will be the most senior executive in situ as Wolff stays to discuss other matters, such as issues surrounding the way new technical rules will be implemented and their impact on the F1 teams. However, the Austrian made it clear there would be “no sense of complacency” as “everybody is still determined to keep on improving”. He added: “It’s an inspiring group of people that fully lives up to the Mercedes aspiration of being the best. We have two races to go in the 2019 season and we want to end this season on a high.” Mercedes have already wrapped up the constructors’ title, while Lewis Hamilton secured a sixth drivers’ crown last time out.
