Wolves 1-1 Southampton

Raul Jimenez cancelled out Danny Ings’ opener as Wolves and Southampton played out a 1-1 draw at Molineux. Wolves went into the game seeking a third successive win in the Premier League after seeing off defending champions Manchester City 2-0 prior to the international break.
The hosts thought they’d taken the lead just before the half hour mark but Jimenez’s effort was ruled out for handball after a VAR check.
VAR came to Southampton’s rescue again in the closing stages of the first period as another Jimenez strike was chalked off due to an offside in the build up.
Saints took the lead on 53 minutes thanks largely to some sloppy defending. Wolves tried to play it out from the back but got it all wrong and a poor ball forward was headed on by Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg for Ings. Conor Coady managed to get in front of the England man only to then miss the ball, which allowed Ings to run through unchallenged and slot home.
Wolves weren’t behind for long though as they were awarded a penalty after Matt Doherty was brought down inside the area. There was a VAR check and the decision stood, with Jimenez getting the goal his performance deserved from the spot.
Neither side looked likely to produce a winner until the closing stages when Saints were awarded a free kick. James Ward-Prowse managed to get his shot on target but Wolves keeper Rui Patricio was equal to his effort and made a decent save.
Wolves extended their unbeaten run to four games in the league thanks to the point, while Southampton sit just one point clear of the relegation places in 17th spot.
