Pereira, who is presently in charge of Al Shabab, will take over from Gary O’Neil, who was fired after Wolves lost to Ipswich 2-1 in the Premier League on Saturday, leaving them five points ahead of safety.

Wolves agreed to pay the Saudi Pro League team compensation, and the 56-year-old signed a contract that would last until the conclusion of the 2025–2026 season.

With a crucial match against Leicester on Sunday as his first game in charge, an official appointment is anticipated within the following day.

Throughout his lengthy managing career, Pereira has won league titles in Portugal, Greece, and China. In 2022, he came very close to succeeding Rafael Benitez as Everton’s manager.

He lost to Frank Lampard that time after supporters demonstrated against his alleged appointment, with the words “Pereira out, Lampard in” painted on a wall at Goodison Park, reports Independent.

However, it seems he is now headed for a Premier League position and would be the third Portuguese manager to lead Wolves after Nuno Espirito Santo and Bruno Lage.

O’Neil was fired following Saturday’s loss, which was Wolves’ fourth straight, dropping them to second-bottom of the English top flight with nine points from 16 games.
