Goalkeeper Andre Onana has been dropped from Cameroon’s World Cup squad for ‘disciplinary reasons ‘ahead of Monday’s 2022 World Cup match against Serbia.
The Inter Milan goalkeeper was fired after a heated argument with manager Rigobert Song regarding the keeper’s style of play.
Devis Epassy, who plays for Abha in Saudi Arabia and has only five international appearances, will take his spot in goal.
Cameroon would need Switzerland to beat Brazil to advance to the knockout stage if they lose this game.
While the exact reason for Onana’s dismissal is unknown, it is said to have stemmed from an argument with manager Rigobert Song about the team’s tactics.
According to Helena Condis Edo, Onana views his relationship with the squad as “irreversible,” despite efforts from Cameroon Football Federation president and legendary striker Samuel Eto’o to broker peace talks.
According to Marca, the argument arose after Song shouted at the goalkeeper during training for taking too many chances with his feet, and Onana refused to change his tactics.

Onana’s departure means he will miss out on a reunion with his old Ajax teammate Dusan Tadic, who could be a key player in the game as he seeks to feed Aleksandar Mitrovic.
The Cameroon goalkeeper spent four years in Holland with Tadic before joining Inter Milan in the summer, where he has battled to find consistent playing time.
The 26-year-old Cameroonian international played at the African Cup of Nations in January-February, when Cameroon placed third, and kept a goal for the Indomitable Lions in their opening encounter against Switzerland, which they lost 1-0.
