World Cup 2022: Morocco File Complaint To FIFA Over Semi-Final Referee

Morocco have confirmed they have filed an official complaint to FIFA about the refereeing during their World Cup semi-final defeat against France.

Morocco’s incredible streak of success at the tournament came to an end as they lost out by a 2-0 scoreline in their last-four clash with the reigning champions.

While there were no complaints about how France took the lead, an incident between Sofiane Boufal and Theo Hernandez later in the first half became a talking point.

Despite replays appearing to indicate that French defender Hernandez slid in late on Boufal inside the penalty area, it was the Morocco winger who was penalised, receiving a yellow card in the process.

Morocco will now prepare for Saturday’s third-place playoff against Croatia, hoping to become the first African country to do so in a World Cup.

However, two days before the match, the Moroccan FA issued a statement condemning Ramos and his fellow officials’ performance, according to FootMercato.

It read: “The Royal Moroccan Football Federation strongly protested the arbitration of the Moroccan national team match against the French national team, led by Cesar Arturo Ramos Palazuelos.

“At the same time, the arbitration is surprised that the mouse room (VAR) was not alerted to that.

“The Royal Moroccan Football Federation affirms that it will not hesitate to defend the rights of our team, calling for fairness in taking the necessary measures regarding the arbitral injustice practiced on the Moroccan national team in its match against the French national team, in the semi-final drawing of the World Cup.”
