According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Argentina’s World Cup winner Enzo Fernandez, who has been linked with a number of teams, including Liverpool, has given the nod to Chelsea.
The midfielder won the Young Player of the Tournament in the recently concluded World Cup and played a key role in Argentina winning in Qatar.
Fernandez joined Benfica last summer but the club could already lose him in the winter window with clubs such as Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool chasing him.
Chelsea are now going ahead with an attempt to get a deal over the line and steal a march on their rivals.
It has been claimed that the 21-year-old has already agreed to a move to the west London club.
With the player’s approval in their kitty, Chelsea are now working towards getting a deal done over the line with Benfica.

The Portuguese giants have made it clear that a club need to trigger his €120m release clause in order to get Fernandez.
However, Chelsea are ready to pay a big fee instead of triggering the clause in the midfielder’s contract.
Liverpool and Manchester United are still interested but have not tabled any bids for the Argentinian yet.
