Xavi Hernandez announced his departure as manager of Barcelona after leading the side to a 2-1 victory over Sevilla on Sunday.
The team finished the La Liga season in second place, ten points behind champion Real Madrid.
After Xavi was fired on Friday for allegedly disclosing the club’s horrifying financial predicament, Barcelona had a trophy-less season.
Barcelona dropped their La Liga matches against Real Madrid, Girona, their neighbors in third place, and Villarreal.
They triumphed at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan stadium in Sevilla, capping their successful campaign.

Barcelona initially declared Xavi will stay for the upcoming season just weeks before he was fired. In January, the coach had stated he intended to leave in the summer.
“We didn’t want this to end but the club made these decisions,” Xavi remarked. “We were on the right course, even though we didn’t win any trophies. However, in football, decisions are made by the directors. The players gave a fantastic response.
Xavi Warns Next Manager
Laporta apparently had a change of heart after Xavi publicly discussed how the team’s dire financial situation would make it difficult for them to compete with bitter rivals Real Madrid.
With a view to taking a sabbatical from teaching, 44-year-old Xavi stated, “Those who made the decision need to explain it.”
After the game, Barcelona teammates bid Xavi farewell.
Goalie Marc-Andre ter Stegen of Barcelona said, “First of all, as a professional he has given us so much, he worked every day so that we could succeed.”
We are really appreciative of his time. We wish him all the best since, personally, we’ve known him for a long time and it’s never easy to say goodbye.
Xavi also cautioned Hansi Flick, who is rumored to be Xavi’s replacement, that the work “won’t be easy.”
Xavi alerted the person next in line to the difficulties that lay ahead, according to First Post
It won’t be simple at all, he said. “They should know that they’ve got a difficult situation, because Barca is a difficult club and there’s an adverse financial situation too.”
“Considering the difficult circumstances we come from, I believe the effort we’ve done has not been appreciated enough.
