Former Barcelona midfield maestro Xavi has stated that a loan deal could enable Jack Wilshere to become one of the best midfield players in Europe.
Xavi’s comments come after Arsene Wenger told the England midfielder to find a new temporary club, in order to regain match fitness. Wilshere has played just 135 minutes of football in his last 15 months at the club.
A series of well-documented injuries have prevented Wilshere from prospering into the midfield player that many thought would go on to light up the Premier League, and the 24-year-old’s intermittent career has frustrated Xavi.
Xavi said: “You never want to see a player struggle with many injuries, but when you see a player of Wilshere’s ability and technique struggle, it is very frustrating because it is obvious what he is capable of.
“I have played against him, he has the ability to control games from midfield. Not many players in Europe have that ability.”
Xavi also went on to discuss the importance of Wilshere finding a club that suits his style of play.
He added: “It’s important that he is loaned to a club that try and play football. Arsenal have a philosophy similar to Barcelona’s in their approach to the game – and he should be loaned to a club who share that vision.”
