Granit Xhaka has hinted at a move away from Borussia Mönchengladbach, with the midfielder claiming it would be “hard to say no” if Manchester City wanted to sign him.
The Gladbach star – who moved from Basel in 2012 – has been in fine form this season, starting in 15/20 Bundesliga fixtures.
The five games he has missed have all been due to suspension, with his all-action nature leading to some rash decisions on the field.
Xhaka has impressed by making an average of five defensive actions per league game this term, whilst also contributing three goals.
The 6ft 1in Switzerland international has now hinted that he would be tempted to leave the German division, if there was an opportunity to play for City.
Speaking to Sport Bild, Xhaka said: “Honestly, in football, you don’t often experience such a positive mood, such cooperation like we have in our team.
“That also counts. And when you want to make the next step, it also needs to be an improvement.
“But logically it is hard to say no when Manchester City wants you and you can play there. I will openly admit that, and that is not only for me.”
His potential suitors are currently in fourth position in the Premier League, with their title charge taking a huge blow on Saturday via a 3-1 home defeat to Leicester City.
The Citizens have suffered from inconsistency, having failed to win two successive league games since mid-October.
If Xhaka does make the move to the North West of England in 2016/16, he’d be following another arrival from the Bundesliga, as Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola is set to take over from 2013/14 title winner Manuel Pellegrini.
