Xhaka: I need some love from Arsenal fans

Arsenal‘s big summer signing Granit Xhaka hopes to get some love from the supporters and earn their full trust as he embarks on his first season with the Gunners.

Xhaka was the first new face through the door at Arsenal this summer as he arrived from Borussia Monchengladbach prior to Euro 2016 for a fee in the region of £35 million.

The Swiss defensive midfielder has made a couple of appearances in the Premier League too but struggled on his debut at home to Liverpool as he committed just four fouls in less than half an hour after coming off the bench.

Xhaka, though, is hoping for some more love and trust from the supporters in the stands who have been getting extremely frustrated with everything the club has been doing recently.

“I need that love from the fans and I need trust from all sides,” Xhaka told the Arsenal Magazine. “I really noticed that on tour in California. I went to an event and the fans there already had a song for me.

“I hadn’t even played a game for Arsenal at that point, so it showed that they have expectations. I will give my absolute everything in every game to try to give something back to them. Maybe not everything will work out for me, but one thing they need to know is that I will always give my all.

“That’s sort of the person I’ve always been. I read some of the comments and it makes me proud to know that they expect a lot from me. I hope I can bring my mentality and some of what I have learnt in the past to this squad. I really hope this will be a successful season.”

The Swiss star is seen as the combative midfielder that Arsenal have needed for years but there are plenty more problems that Arsene Wenger needed to address in the summer transfer market.

With Shkrodan Mustafi and Lucas Perez supposedly arriving this weekend, it looks like he’s finally plugging the gaps in the squad.

Should they all start to gel, including Xhaka, Arsenal could be onto a winner but Wenger will need them to adapt quickly to turn around the Gunners’ poor start to the season.
