Lamine Yamal’s month ended in the worst possible way when he was hurt in Barcelona’s match against Leganes, and he is now expected to miss three to four weeks.
This is major news for Real Madrid because it casts doubt on the player’s participation in a hypothetical Spanish Super Cup final, which might very well be a Clásico.
While it would be natural for a player of the Golden Boy winner’s caliber to play on the night, it may be a major letdown for Carlo Ancelotti’s team, who have nothing but admiration for him.
After all, Real Madrid quickly assisted in the inquiry to identify people who racially assaulted Yamal at the Santiago Bernabeu earlier this year.
The respect goes both ways.
In a recent interview with MARCA, the Barcelona starlet was asked who the toughest opponent he had faced in a rival squad was, and he did not hesitate to name a Real Madrid player with the utmost respect.
“Who is the toughest opponent? Araujo is in training. As a rival? “Maybe Ferland Mendy.”
Coming from the Golden Boy, who is widely regarded as one of the top young talents in the world at his position, this is strong praise for Mendy, who has been under fire in recent months.
With the addition of Alphonso Davies, Real Madrid hopes to convert to a more offensive left-back formation.

However, such awareness highlights the need of a defensively proficient full-back, as Mendy has proved.
The Frenchman is now sidelined, but is scheduled to return early next month. While the club has not provided an estimate of his time off, they will hope he returns in time to face Yamal in a potential Super Cup final if the teenager recovers.
